It’s always fun—and gratifying—to get the kind of feedback we received from one of our recent guests to the show. This is what Richie Billing, author of Together We Rise, wrote in his newsletter:
Recently, I was invited onto the brilliant Authors Up podcast for a chinwag about Together We Rise.
Hosts Ruth, Victoria and Andrea have all read the book, and it was brilliant to dive deeper into it with them.
We discuss our favourite characters—The Healer, The Urchin and The Guard all get some nice praise!
And we delve into the themes and subject matter of the story, how it mirrors the issues we experience in our own world, and what readers can take away from the story.
Personally, this is one of my favourite interviews on podcasts to date. Victoria and Andrea, in particular, seemed to really connect with the story, and as a writer, this is what I long for and strive to achieve.
We didn’t set out to be brilliant. Only to read books, talk about books, give authors a platform to talk about their books—really, we wanted to celebrate authors for the stories they tell, because as authors know that it’s a great achievement when someone, despite their circumstances, is able to complete and publish a book. That is worthy of celebration and that is what we like to do on Authors Up.
We invite you to check out our program, whether live on Sunday nights, on YouTube during the week, or via podcast as you go about your day. We’re six years into this and feel like we’re getting started. This isn’t a task for us, but a joy and I think it shows in what we do. Watch a show or two and let us know if you agree.
